Mid sized soup/poridge bowls with a story to tell...
A couple of months after Russia attacked Ukraine, a Ukrainian woman named Oxana — a college-trained potter — came to stay here and helped me in the studio for a time. One of the tasks I gave her was to make soup bowls. It was a small way to offer her support during a difficult moment in life — and perhaps a chance for some of my followers to one day enjoy a beautiful bowl for soup or morning porridge.
In just a few days, Oxana made quite a pile of beautiful bowls, shaped by her hands, infused with her spirit, and following the design I had asked for. I did several glaze tests, searching for the perfect final touch… but never got around to firing them.
Time passed. Oxana moved to Vienna. The bowls sat waiting on a back shelf in my studio storage — untouched — for almost three years.
This spring, I finally brought them out, cleaned them up, and fired them. I used white underglaze decoration and a bluish, milky sea-foam glaze. The results are earthy yet playful — light, misty, and smooth enough for everyday use. Each one is different, each one stands on its own.
